I’ve been playing this tune for quite a while now. I wrote it for Cécile back when we were on two opposite ends of the Earth (she in France and I in the US), and since then it’s stayed one of both of our favorites.
It’s a pretty simple song, as far as the harmony and the overall approach go. Maybe that’s why it works so well?
It’s real debut was at our wedding in the states, when I sang it during the ceremony. Even though lots of friends and family had already heard it – at our house, at my parents’ house, down in Burgundy with the grandparents, or just about any time a pulled out the guitar! – there were still some among the guests who weren’t even aware that I sang!
