I’m just back from two weeks in Cuba, my first time back since 2004, when I was there to do my fieldwork for my thesis. This time around, Cécile and I spent many an afternoon blissfully strolling around Habana Vieja, stopping here and there to dance and jam with the groups who play in bars and on street corners all around the neighborhood.
One group I remembered from a previous trip, as they’re one of the few groups in La Habana to play a real old-style son with a marimbula and a botija instead of a double bass! The group is called Típico de Sones, and I’ve included here a clip of us jamming together on Compay Segundo’s Chan chan.
Great song David! I would love to have heard it live.

Thanks Pat!
